When the Miami Heat presented an eight-foot monument of the three-time NBA champion on Sunday, Dwyane Wade’s place as a legend was further solidified.
Wade’s famous “This is my house” celebration during the 2009 double-overtime victory over the Chicago Bulls is honored by the bronze statue, making him the first player in Heat history to be commemorated with one outside the team’s Kaseya Center.
Before retiring in 2019, the 42-year-old had 16 seasons in the NBA and was chosen as an All-Star 13 times. Wade is one of just two players to have played for the Heat on all three of their championship teams, and he leads the team in points, assists, and games played.
Wade was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame for his outstanding career.
“That is absurd. That is unbelievable. Who is that man? Following the statue’s unveiling, Wade stated.
As it happened, many admirers were posing the same query.
The statue’s resemblance to Wade was criticized by some, who compared it to the controversial bust of Cristiano Ronaldo that was erected at Madeira Airport in 2017.
On an Instagram video of the unveiling, one commenter said that the monument looked more like Laurence Fishburne’s portrayal of “Morpheus” in the film “The Matrix” than Wade.
A local reporter named Will Manso, however, later shared a close-up of the monument on X, the old name for Twitter, stating that it “looks much better than in pictures.”
As he spoke, Wade, however, seemed to be in awe of the monument behind him.
“This is insane,” he declared. “This is how I wanted to feel. We seldom get to feel things because we’re always moving on to the next thing, and life passes by so quickly.
Because I wanted to feel this, guy, I didn’t do any preparation. He turned back to examine the monument once more and continued, “I wanted to look at it.”
When the Heat play the Detroit Pistons on Monday night, Miami will continue their two-day Wade celebration.
In the Warriors’ defeat, Steph Curry sustains an injury.
After Steph Curry was forced to leave the Golden State Warriors’ 112-104 defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers due to an ankle injury, the team is worried about his health.
After undergoing treatment on the sideline, Curry returned to the game in the fourth quarter after he had twisted his left ankle in the third. But after re-injuring himself, he had to be assisted by teammates back to the locker room and departed the game permanently.
Curry described the issue as “mild or moderate,” according to Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who also mentioned that he will get an MRI on Sunday.
“It’s clear that he has sprained that ankle numerous times,” Kerr continued. “It’s concerning, but he doesn’t think it’s too bad.”
Before leaving, Curry finished with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Andrew Wiggins filled in for him, scoring a game-high 29 points.
